Bienvenue!
You've stumbled upon my latest and arguably greatest blogging effort yet... which honestly isn't saying a great deal, considering my last go at bloggage, however I'm trying this fun new approach called optimism, at the very beginning at least.
So I was not super good at keeping my 'back at home' blog up to date - I believe it had but two entries and both of them are from around August 2008. HOWEVER, I'm off to the wilds of Africa (as opposed to the not-so-wilds of Armidale...) which is well exciting, and blogging about it once again appeals...
Anywho... On January 2nd I'll be leaving on the proverbial jet plane, (however I'm fairly certain I know when I'll be back again...) to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, (the Ivory Coast) for a 2 month internship through the ASK project, an initiative of AIESEC, the worldwide exchange organization. The project involves an HIV/AIDS education and awareness program being implemented in schools, and also entails cooperation with a local NGO, 'Le Soutien', which cares for children orphaned by the disease. I'll be living with a family during my two month stay, and hopefully will pick up some french fairly quickly... having said that though, before I started taking weekly lessons in the last month or so, the extent of my french was a robust 'french' laugh (húnhúnhúnh!!) and Eddy Izzard's "Le Singe est sur la branche!"...
... Little link for anyone scratching their head:
Eddie Izzard: Learning French...
... and yes, while I'm a bit better informed now, and je m'apelle-ing and j'habite-ing with ease, this total immersion thing should prove something of a deep-end introduction...
ANYWAY, my excitement is mounting, preparations are in full swing (both my arms have gigantic track-marks from the number of vaccines I've had to have... ) I shall attempt to keep this as up-to-date as I can in the lead-up, and while I'm over there of course! So please, stay tuned for my latest set of adventures...
